Logically's Browser Extension Selected for #BuildForCovid Global Online Hackathon

The #BuildforCOVID19 Global Online Hackathon challenged innovators around the world to create technologies to drive social impact across a range of themes sourced from the World Health Organisation and independent nonprofit research centre, Chan Zuckerberg Biohub. Some of the themes included were Health, Vulnerable Populations, Community and Education under which Logically’s browser extension was submitted. The challenge ran from  March 24th to 30th  and amassed 18,926 participants from over 175 countries with 400 qualified, health engineering and non-profit background judges choosing the final highlighted projects including. Organisations participating in the set up of the Hackathon include AWS, Facebook, Slack, TikTok, Twitter and WeChat to name a few.

The Logically browser extension enables users of news websites and open/closed social networks to submit fact checks directly from their browser or mobile app—first querying an automated fact checking database for related claims to source information from their single source of truth databases, before being passed on to their expert fact check team to give one of six verdicts: True, Partially True, False, Misleading or Unverifiable. Using AI, Incoming claims are checked against a single source of truth databases, which include information from Government Advisory Pages, the World Health Organisation, CDC, NHS, through a vectorised analysis of the incoming claim against related claims.

Where vectorised analysis of claims doesn't  return any relevant results, the claim then goes through Logically's expert fact-check process: Logically's team of trained fact checkers (the largest dedicated fact-checking team on earth) classify claims according to Logically's taxonomy before undergoing a rigorous verification process which is ultimately signed off by a moderator before publication—providing full justifications of  judgement, and links to relevant primary sources used to conduct the fact-check.
