The Ministry of Railways did not cancel passenger trains till or after March 31, 2021. The viral clip was from the lockdown in March 2020. Several social media posts claimed that Indian Railways is canceling currently operating trains till and after March 31, 2021.

The Ministry of Railways issued a statement on March 22, 2021, debunking those claims clarifying that news clips from the previous year are circulated misleadingly.

The decision made in March 2020 was at the beginning of the lockdown in India. Indian Railways had canceled all passenger trains on March 22, 2020, the day of Janta Curfew due to the spread of COVID-19.

Indian Railways will continue to operate express trains and suburban trains as special trains.
