Professor Chandon Ghose of the Indian Institute of Technology, Jammu, has warned that the effects of a major earthquake in the region of Delhi NCR could be cataclysmic.

Professor Chandon Ghose warned the after-effects of a stronger earthquake having Richter scale 6.0 in the Delhi would be devastating.An earthquake having a magnitude of 4.5 had recorded in Delhi on 29 May 2020, and a medium-intensity earthquake of magnitude 3.2 happened near Noida on 3 June. Professor Ghose advised that if the magnitude of the quake in Delhi was higher than 6.0, the aftereffects would be serious and many of the buildings would be destroyed. He mentioned that Delhi-NCR is under seismic zone-4, and most of the builders still do not follow the norms of BIS ( Bureau of Indian Standards). Almost 10 earthquakes had been observed in Delhi between 12 April and 29 May 2020. Geologists predict that these minor tremors might lead to a bigger incoming earthquake.
