At least 35 were reported dead and about 70 were wounded in the 1993 Bijbehara Massacre.On October 22, 1993, the Border Security Force (BSF) opened fire without warning in Bijbehara, Jammu & Kashmir, on the crowd demonstrating against the siege of the Hazratbal Mosque in Srinagar.

Hundreds of locals had participated in a protest march near the main-market of Bijbehara town. The BSF personnel present there fired indiscriminately on the protesters resulting in on-spot death of civilians and protesters getting injured in the incident. Human Rights Watch, news reports, and other sources have stated that the shooting had left at least 35 dead (ranging from 35 to 51) and around 70 wounded.
