India and Pakistan governments have taken the necessary precautions to control the locust swarms in May and June 2020.Locust control operations are ongoing in the states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Punjab, and Maharashtra, conducted by the Locust Warning Organization and 10 Locust Circle Offices in coordination with the state governments. The Indian government has sanctioned Rs. 14 crore for Rajasthan. There were no reports of significant crop losses in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, and Haryana except for some minor crop losses in some districts of Rajasthan.
Pakistan Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Syed Fakhar Imam said that locusts entered Pakistan from Afghanistan. National Locust Control Center, along with the National Disaster Management Authority and district administration, has made efforts to control the locust. The Pakistan government plans to spend Rs.14 billion, with provincial governments contributing Rs.12 billion.
