Jammu and Kashmir police registered an FIR on a news report published by The Hindu, and the correspondent was summoned for questioning.A Facebook post by Kashmir Police confirms that a First Information Report (FIR) was filed against Peerzada Ashiq, Kashmir correspondent of The Hindu news agency for spreading misinformation regarding an encounter at Shopian and subsequent developments. It added that the details quoted in the report were wrong and could cause panic among the public. Police mentioned that the news was published without confirmation from the district authorities and the investigation of the case ongoing.

Moreover, Kashmir IGP (Inspector General of Police) Vijay Kumar told the journalists to not to publish false news that would affect the security and law and order of the nation and which has the potential of causing social insecurity. He asked to confirm the reliability of the information with the authorities before publishing it in the media.
