Bhupinder Singh Mann was not removed from his union, but he withdrew from the expert panel on Jan. 14, 2021, formed by the Supreme Court.
Later on Jan. 14, Bhupinder Singh Mann issued a press statement recusing himself from the SC committee, citing farmers' interest. Mann said, being a farmer and a union leader himself, "in view of the prevailing sentiments and apprehensions amongst the farmers and public in general, I am ready to sacrifice any position offered or given to me so as not to compromise the interests of Punjab and the farmers of the country.”
Apparently, Mann received threats that prompted him to opt-out of the SC panel, Vinod Anand, the All India Kisan Coordination Committee spokesperson, said in an interview with ABP News. After Mann was named a panelist, the committee was trolled on social media. Mann and other leaders began receiving threats from Canada as well; consequently, he chose to withdraw himself, Anand added.
Bhupinder Singh Mann is still the National President of Bharatiya Kisan Union and Chairman of All India Kisan Coordination Committee and has not been removed from his post.
