Supreme court ordered in favor of the UGC to conduct the final year degree exams.

The Supreme Court's final verdict on the UGC guidelines made it obligatory for the universities to conduct final year examinations.

The Supreme Court's final verdict on the UGC guidelines made it obligatory for the universities to conduct final year examinations. On August 28, 2020, the Supreme Court of India upholds a decision by the University Grants Commission(UGC) to conduct final year degree students' exams. It has also said that states were empowered to decide, depending on the Disaster Management (DM) Act, 2005, to postpone final year exams after September. State governments can consult the UGC to fix the date for conducting final year examination or final semester exams at a date convenient and suitable because of the pandemic.

A massive section of students protested the UGC's July 6 order mandating the exams online, offline, or using both. Delhi and Maharastra also announced to cancel the exams and promote the final year students on the internal assessment marks due to the health risks the COVID-19 poses to the students and the staff.

The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation. For reliable advice on COVID-19 including symptoms, prevention and available treatment, please refer to the World Health Organisation or your national healthcare authority.
