False: The global elite has chosen to begin the Great Reset in Australia.

The Great Reset is an initiative launched by the World Economic Forum. Conspiracy theorists have used the term and made outlandish claims. A Facebook user posted a video promoting the Great Reset conspiracy theory on a group called "Infidel brotherhood of Australia 1" on August 8, 2021. The video apparently features a member of the hacktivist group Anonymous, who claims that "it has become apparent that Australia has been chosen by the cabal, the global elite to begin the Great Reset." The man in the video further claims that "this global agenda is disguised as the COVID-19 health pandemic." The video also alleges that Australia was chosen because of its large youth population, and the elites want to "suppress their growth." To date, the video has amassed over 168k views and has been shared over 5k times. Logically could not find evidence that the Anonymous group actually uploaded the video, though we cannot rule out the possibility. That said, the claims made in this video – an amalgamation of different conspiracy theories that have been circulating since the start of the pandemic – have been debunked repeatedly and are either false and/or outlandish. At a virtual meeting in June 2020 hosted by the World Economic Forum (WEF), some of the world's most powerful business leaders, government officials, and activists came together. They announced a proposal to reset the global economy. Instead of traditional capitalism, it was said that the reset should adopt more socialistic policies, such as wealth taxes, additional regulations, and massive Green New Deal-like government programs. This came to be known as the Great Reset. However, conspiracy theorists have baselessly claimed that the Great Reset is a strategic part of a grand conspiracy by the global elite, who somehow planned and managed the COVID-19 pandemic. Conspiracy theorists believe that the "cabal" or the "deep state" uses the pandemic as a guise to depopulate and reset the world. These claims are not true. Similarly, the claim that the "cabal" has chosen Australia to begin the Great Reset is baseless. The WEF suggests that “the world must act jointly and swiftly to revamp all aspects of our societies and economies, from education to social contracts, or a great reset of capitalism.” The Great Reset conversation began in late May 2020 when the WEF announced plans to convene world leaders to discuss climate change and rebuilding the economy, and all countries worldwide are a part of this effort. The 8-minute long video also urges the people of Australia to rise against this "agenda," as people in the U.K. and France have. It also compares lockdowns and closing of non-essential businesses to laws implemented by Nazi Germany during the Second World War. The video talks about how the coronavirus is a man-made virus created to depopulate the world and that by using PCR tests, we actually inoculate the virus. These claims have all been previously debunked. According to the BBC, "In this narrative [the global reset], lockdown restrictions were introduced not to curb the spread of the virus, but to deliberately bring about economic collapse and a socialist world government, albeit run for the benefit of powerful capitalists."
