Indian PM Narendra Modi's twitter account which is linked to his personal website was briefly hacked in the early hours of September 3, 2020.
Reports by Hindustan Times claim that HT contacted one of the Hackers involved in the incident by using an email ID they left behind in one of the tweets. The hacker reportedly told them that the hack was meant to clear the 'John Wich' group's name from a prior incident where PayTM Mall was hacked. He told Hindustan Times that they were not involved in the PayTM Mall hack. The hacker also said that they had previously written to many Indian media outlets to inform about it but claimed that they did not receive any response. It supposedly prompted them to compromise the Indian PM's Account. It was also revealed that the hackers took gained access to the website of PM Modi and that they did not hack Twitter itself. The backdoor into the website gave them access to post the tweets.
