Male cats tend to use their left paw more while female cats use their right paw. There is no evidence of most cats being left-pawed.Paw preference in cats has not only fascinated pet owners but curious scientists too. It actually has been the focus of more than 30 scientific studies so far. Surprisingly, the findings of these studies have been somewhat inconsistent. Studies conducted on cats' behavioral patterns have indicated that male cats tend to use their left paw more over the female cats that use their right. On average cats have almost the same chance of being left or right-pawed. Recent studies have discovered that many pet cats show a marked preference for the right or left front paw when it comes to walking downstairs, stepping over an object, or reaching for food. However, these preferences differ based on whether they are male or female. Overall it can be concluded that paw preference depends on the gender of the feline friend, and results are inconclusive to show whether or not cats commonly tend to use a specific paw.
