Private Hospitals in India would charge for COVID-19 vaccination as the second phase of the drive is set to begin in March 2021.

Private Hospitals in India would charge for COVID-19 vaccination as the second phase of the drive is set to begin in March 2021.The COVID-19 vaccines, namely Covishield, developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University and manufactured by the Serum Institute, and Bharat Biotech's Covaxin, have been approved by the Indian Government for emergency use. The first phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive was started in January this year, with more than one crore people getting the vaccine for free.

The government announced that the second phase of the vaccine drive would begin on March 1, 2021. People aged above 60 years and those above 45 years of age with comorbidities can get vaccinated at 10,000 government and over 20,000 private vaccination centers.

While people will be vaccinated free of cost at government hospitals, the private centers will charge for the vaccination. The vaccine price is yet to be decided and will be known shortly; the government is expected to decide the price after discussing it with the hospitals and manufacturers.
