The U.S. government had an agreement with drugmaker Moderna to acquire 100 million doses of its potential COVID-19 vaccine for around $1.525 billion.On August 11, 2020, under the leadership of President Donald Trump, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Department of Defense (DoD) announced an agreement with Moderna, a U.S. based biotechnology company for the U.S. government to secure 100 million doses of Moderna's mRNA-1273 - the company's COVID-19 vaccine candidate - for the American people. The deal for the vaccine is worth $1.525 billion and the federal government would give the option to purchase up to 400 million additional doses. Moderna's vaccine is in late-stage human trials which would test its efficacy and safety on 30,000 people.
