Yogi Adityanath has said that TMC goons will be punished. But there are no instances where he ranted that he wanted the TMC goondas dead. The West Bengal assembly elections are scheduled to be held in March and April 2021, in eight different phases, and all political parties are active with their election campaigns. There have been several heated arguments and counterarguments in the days leading to the elections. As the campaigning progressed, several fake social media posts have targeted political parties and political leaders alike. One such post that went viral stated that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had threatened to kill TMC workers. But in reality, he had just pointed out that he wanted all the 'TMC goondas to be punished.'

The viral post was tweeted by Mahua Moitra, MP of Trinamool Congress (TMC), on March 16, 2021. It stated that Yogi Adityanath, the UP Chief Minister, had threatened to kill TMC workers one by one if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was elected to power.

Yogi Adityanath had addressed three rallies in West Bengal on March 16, 2021. His first rally was at Balarampur in Purulia district, which was live-streamed on Youtube. The second rally was at West Medinipur's Belda and was live-streamed on his Facebook page, and the third rally was at Raipur, Bakura.

Upon reviewing these rallies addressed by the UP chief minister, it was found that Yogi said he would punish TMC goondas by law who were responsible for murdering BJP workers in the state. However, there are no statements in any of his speeches referring to 'kill TMC goondas' if BJP gets elected in West Bengal.
