Democrats plan to provide $2.2 trillion for the COVID-19 relief package.

The U.S. House of Representatives has approved a coronavirus-relief package of $2.2 trillion proposed by Democrats.

The U.S. House of Representatives has approved a coronavirus-relief package of $2.2 trillion proposed by Democrats. On Oct. 1, 2020, The U.S. House of Representatives approved a $2.2 trillion stimulus package, also known as Heros Act 2.0, by a vote of 214-207. The Democrats put forward the package. The bill includes funding for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), helping small businesses secure loans to keep their operations and payrolls running. It also authorizes the second round of $1,200 direct payments and the $600 unemployment insurance benefit that has been imperative for so many hard-working Americans. The legislation also provides $436 billion to help state and local governments who are currently strapped for cash and an additional $75 billion to increase coronavirus testing and contact-tracing efforts across the country. Whereas no Republican voted in support of the plan and Mitch McConnell, the Senate Majority Leader has opposed the package and called the $2.2 trillion price tag as outlandish. Moreover, 18 Democrats voted against this bill.

There is a little chance that the bill will become a law as negotiations with the Trump administration failed to yield a bipartisan agreement. The bill was $1.2 trillion less from the original $3.4 trillion stimulus bill that Democrats passed through the House in May, 2020.
