V.K. Sashikala has told the Income Tax department that she had only Rs. 48.31 lakh in 2016, but there are no records to support this claim.V.K. Sashikala, an aide of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, J.Jayalalithaa, has been linked to 'Benami' assets worth Rs.1600 by the Income-Tax Department. She had purchased these assets using about Rs.1500 crores of demonetized notes under fictitious identities. The Income-Tax Department submitted its responses to the Madras High Court. She had filed a petition to seek permission to cross-examine a few people whose statements were already recorded by the department. Justice Anitha Sumanth dismissed her permission since the department told the court that the assessment procedure for the years 2012-13 to 2017-18 had been completed and uploaded on their website. She is currently serving her jail term of four years under the Disproportionate Assets case in Bengaluru's Parappana Agrahara prison. However, there is no evidence to verify that she had Rs.48.31 lakh during the demonization in 2016.
