The list of candidates left several party old-timers angry for the new players being given the preference, Indian Express reported. According to the report, supporters of some leaders also held a protest in various parts of the state.

Former Hoogly district BJP President Subir Nag also expressed his resentment and announced that he was “quitting politics” for being “betrayed.” According to the sources close to the Indian Express, Nag was unhappy after BJP MP Locket Chatterjee was made the candidate from Chuchura.

Today I feel the party no longer requires my service. Therefore, I have decided to stay away from politics,” Nag said.

He, however, added that he would return “if the party gives” him “the due respect” and calls him back, the Millennium Post reported.
