A Daffodil International University publication confirms that the Bengali calendar was a combination of both the Islamic and the Hindu calendars.A report published by the University over the history of Pohela Boishak (Bengali New year) detailed that the Bangladesh (Bengali) calendar is the fusion of the lunar Islamic calendar and solar Hindu calendar. The calendar was developed by the royal astronomer Fathullah Shirazi on the direction of Mughal Emperor Akbar, and that was known as Fasholi shan (harvest calendar). It added that according to the historians, the modern Bengali calendar was developed from the Akbar's harvest calendar (Fasholi shan).

Articles published by the Vintage News and the Catch News states that Emperor Akbar had established the Bengal calendar By unifying the Hindu and Islamic dating systems together. It added that the Akbar used the harvesting calendar for the facilitation of revenue collection.
