Napoli's stadium is set to be named after Diego Maradona.

The mayor of Naples started a formal process to rename the San Paolo stadium for Diego Maradona.

The mayor of Naples started a formal process to rename the San Paolo stadium for Diego Maradona. Argentine footballer Diego Maradona died on Nov. 25 due to cardiac arrest. He is regarded as one of the greatest football players in the history of football. The Mayor of Naples Luigi De Magistris said they are taking the first steps to dedicate Naples’ stadium to Maradona. He said the process will be done quickly, and there is a strong desire to get it done. The club will be renamed as 'Stadio Diego Armando Maradona', which is currently known as St. Paul. Maradona had led Napoli to its only two Serie A titles in 1987 and 1990. Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis said in an open letter that it was fair to name San Paolo after Maradona.
