There is no official report published by the North Korean authorities about rounding up pet dogs or using them as meat to tackle the food shortage.

There is no official report published by the North Korean authorities about rounding up pet dogs or using them as meat to tackle the food shortage.North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had reportedly banned having pet dogs in the country as he sees raising dogs as a symbol of capitalism.

This move by the leader has reportedly made many dog owners unhappy. Recent reports citing an unknown source by a South Korean media outlet named Chosun Ilbo stated that new orders were issued by Kim Jong Un to confiscate all pet dogs in the country, and some of them were reportedly put in zoos. The rest are reportedly being used as meat at restaurants to tackle the food crisis across the DPRK (North Korea).

However, there are no official announcements available from the North Korean authorities to either support or refute the claim made by the media. Thus, we cannot objectively verify the claim at the current time.
