The investigation started after a complaint was received from an opinion group 'Dignitat Blaugrana.' FC Barcelona has hired a third-party company to defame its rivals on media, including its own players Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique, former presidents and current presidential candidates.

The police raided the club's facilities and confirmed that arrests were made regarding the case but did not disclose who would be detained. The Barçagate story is said to have emerged due to the documents that showed the club's inner workings and financial transactions, making a splash in the Spanish media. The football club has released a statement offering total collaboration to the investigation.
