Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh said that Republic TV was involved in the manipulation of TRPs, but more details are awaited.On Oct. 8, 2020, the Mumbai police claimed that some TV channels in Mumbai were manipulating TRP ratings. Addressing this issue in a press conference, the police commissioner said that the police had received complaints from BARC India (viewership measurement agency), Hansa, a consumer insights company, and one of BARC vendors about suspicious trends and activities. Based on the complaints, they arrested a former Hansa employee and recovered Rs 20 lakh from his bank account and another Rs 8.5 lakh from his bank locker. This money was supposed to be used to pay people to turn on their TV and watch Republic TV. Also, the police commissioner named Arnab Goswami, who owns the news channel Republic TV, and two small Marathi TV channels Fakt Marathi and Box Cinema in the alleged scam. However, the investigation is still going on, and more details are currently being awaited.
