Total 20,000 deaths would be a good result in the UK was said by the National Health Service (NHS) Director Stephen Powis but not by Chris Whitty. In a news conference, on 28 March 2020 NHS Director warned the public against complacency and said that everyone had to play their part in preventing the spread of the coronavirus. Further, he said that the UK would do well if it manages to keep the coronavirus death toll below 20,000, this would be a good result which should not be complacent.

However, the statement was not made by Professor Chris Whitty.
