The president of Khan Market Traders' Association, Sanjeev Mehra said that Khan Market was named after Abdul Ghaffar Khan, who was given the title 'Frontier Gandhi' because he helped Hindus who fled from violence with safe passage to India during the partition of India and Pakistan. His statement comes in the backdrop of some Bharatiya Janata Party supporters wanting to change the name of the Khan Market However, it is not possible to verify why he was called Frontier Gandhi as historical records from the Ministry of External Affairs and other websites do not specify why he was called Frontier Gandhi.
