Secret Service agents had briefly rushed U.S President Donald Trump to the White House bunker designed for use in emergencies like terrorist attacks.Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the White House following the death of George Floyd, an African-American who died after he was pinned at the neck by a white Minneapolis police officer. The demonstration turned violent and protesters threw water bottles, set off fireworks, and burned a pile of wood. Donald Trump reportedly spent nearly an hour in the White House bunker. This was confirmed by an official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to The Associated Press. This demonstration sparked one of the highest alerts on the White House complex since the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001.

White House spokesman Judd Deere declined to comment on any security protocols and decisions. The Secret Service also said that it does not discuss the means and methods of its protective operations. The president’s move to the bunker was first reported by The New York Times.

The First Lady even canceled her scheduled trip to Cape Canaveral, Florida, for witnessing a rocket launch and chose to remain in the White House. The president and his family (The First Lady and their 14-year-old son) have been residing in the White House and have not left the building since the protests broke out in Washington DC.
