Eastern Ladakh situation update, reveals that on the night of August 29/30,2020, Chinese army made movements to alter the existing state of affairs.Since May 5, 2020, the Chinese and Indian troops have engaged in an aggressive standoff at locations along the Sino-Indian border, including near the disputed Pangong Lake in Ladakh and the Tibet Autonomous Region. Additional clashes also took place at locations in eastern Ladakh along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). It is reported that on June 15/16, 2020,20 Indian soldiers and 43 Chinese soldiers were dead in face-offs. Later in July 2020, it was reported that both the troops moved back around 1.5 to 2 km from the Patrol Point 14 in Galwan Valley.
According to Army spokesperson Col Aman Anand, on the intervening night of August 29 and 30,2020, Indian troops observed the proactive movement of the Chinese forces at Southern Bank of Pangong Tso Lake. The Indian army pre-empted this PLA activity, which prevented Chinese intentions to change the status quo at the Line of Actual Control (LAC). A Brigade Commander-level flag meeting is in progress at Chushul to resolve the issues.
