The dotted line on the United Nations world map shows the Line of Control of Jammu and Kashmir as agreed by India and Pakistan.

The dotted line on the United Nations world map shows the Line of Control of Jammu and Kashmir as agreed by India and Pakistan.A Facebook page by the name of Srinagar News Express had posted a map of Asia claiming that the United Nations (UN) in its newly issued world map has recognised Jammu and Kashmir as a separate country. The claim was shared by multiple social media accounts.

A PDF file of the UN world map shows a dotted line that represents the Line of Control (LOC) that divides Kashmir from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. In the map, an asterisk is placed next to Jammu and Kashmir to indicate that the region is disputed. The UN has stated that the boundaries and names shown and the designations used on the map do not imply official endorsement or acceptance by the UN. Also, no legislative decisions have been passed recently that accords Jammu and Kashmir with the status of a separate nation. Hence, the claim is false.
