Congress leader CP Joshi lost the 2008 Rajasthan assembly election by one vote.

Congress leader CP Joshi lost the Nathdwara seat to BJP candidate Kalyan Singh Chouhan by one vote during the 2008 Rajasthan assembly election.

Congress leader CP Joshi lost the Nathdwara seat to BJP candidate Kalyan Singh Chouhan by one vote during the 2008 Rajasthan assembly election.During the 2008 Rajasthan assembly election, the Congress party emerged as the largest party in the 200-member legislative assembly, by winning 96 seats, just five short of a simple majority.

The elections were held on December 4, 2008, and the results were declared on Dec 8; and for the second time, Ashok Gehlot was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the state on December 13, 2008.

Even though Congress had not named its chief ministerial candidate during the election campaign; Ashok Gehlot and the then president of the party’s state unit C.P. Joshi were considered the frontrunners. But Joshi’s luck ran out when he lost his Nathdwara seat by just one vote to Kalyan Singh Chouhan, who bagged 62216 votes. Joshi became the second person in Indian election history to lose an assembly election by one vote.
