BJP’s Bengal youth front president Saumitra Khan and wife Sujata Mondal Khan have separated after she joined the Trinamool Congress on Dec. 21.

BJP’s Bengal youth front president Saumitra Khan and wife Sujata Mondal Khan have separated after she joined the Trinamool Congress on Dec. 21.The president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and MP from Bishnupur, Saumitra Khan, has decided to send a divorce notice to his wife of ten years, Sujata, after her admission to the Trinamool Congress ahead of the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections. Sujata was also a BJP member and even shared the stage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi while campaigning. Responding to Sujata's switch to the Trinamool Congress on Dec. 21, 2020, Saumitra blamed the Trinamool party for breaking his family.

Saumitra is a former Trinamool Congress leader who joined the BJP in January 2019. Sujata was credited for Saumitra's victory in the 2019 national election when a court barred him from entering his constituency as a bail condition in a criminal case. She single-handedly ran his campaign, and he won. Sujata claimed she never received due acknowledgment in the BJP for the risks she took to ensure her husband's win. She said that the BJP does not give enough respect and honor to people. Further, she told NDTV that her family and politics were separate, and it was up to her husband to choose what he wanted to do.
