An armed man was arrested near U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris' official residence.

On March 17, 2021, Paul Michael Murray was initially detained by the U.S. Secret Service division for possessing illegal weapons and ammunition.

The 31-year-old from San Antonio had been initially detained by Uniformed Division Officers of the U.S. Secret Service for carrying dangerous weapons and ammunition near the Vice President's house. Division officers arrived incident following a region-wide intelligence bulletin from Texas, which had been issued in his name. Washington's Metropolitan Police later arrested him. CNN Citing Police reports stated that Murray was in possession of an "AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, 113 rounds of unregistered ammunition, and five 30 round magazines." Murray has been charged with several counts for carrying a dangerous weapon, carrying a rifle or shotgun outside of a business, possession of unregistered ammunition, and possession of a large-capacity ammunition feeding device. A bulletin from Texas Intelligence stated that Murray sent a text message to his mother, admitting he had been experiencing "paranoid delusions" that the military or government was after him. CBS noted that Vice President Kamala Harris and second gentleman Doug Emhoff were not present at the official residency in U.S. Naval Observatory, Washington, D.C., as it has been undergoing renovation.
