Donald Trump asked people to boycott Goodyear after the company banned employees from wearing 'MAGA attire.'
An employee shared an image of a slide presented during a diversity training in the company showing what's acceptable and what isn't as part of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company's zero-tolerance policy. Black Lives Matter (BLM), Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride were acceptable. Whereas Blue Lives Matter, All Lives Matter, MAGA Attire, Political Affiliated Slogans, or Material were unacceptable. The photo went viral on social media.
After the photo went viral, Goodyear issued a statement on August 19, stating that the company 'has always wholeheartedly supported both equality and law enforcement and will continue to do so.' The statement noted that the image in question did not come from Goodyear's corporate headquarters and 'was not part of a diversity training class.' The statement also emphasized that the company has a long-standing zero-tolerance policy for any form of harassment or discrimination. Moreover, they said they ask their employees to refrain from workplace expressions in support of political campaigning for any candidate or political party.
In response, Trump tweeted, asking his followers to boycott Goodyear tires. He elaborated on his stance at a news briefing where he accused the company of playing politics.
