Kerala has announced a full lockdown from May 8 to May 16, 2021.

The Kerala government has announced a complete lockdown in the state for 9 days due to the rising cases of COVID-19.

India has been witnessing a deadly second wave of coronavirus, with daily cases surpassing 4 lakhs. Kerala is one of the states which has been affected badly by the virus.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan issued a directive imposing a full lockdown in the state from May 8 to May 16, 2021, considering the steep rise in daily COVID-19 cases. At present, a partial lockdown type is imposed with some curbs in place.

The decision came in a day after the southern state reported a total of 41,593 COVID-19 cases on May 5. The active cases rose to 3.75 lakh with a test positivity rate of 25.69%, and the cumulative death toll reached 5,565.

The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation. For reliable advice on COVID-19 including symptoms, prevention and available treatment, please refer to the World Health Organisation or your national healthcare authority.
