California bans singing in churches amid the COVID-19 crisis.

The California Department of Public Health banned indoor singing in places of worship to avoid chances of COVID-19 transmission via exhaled air.

The industry guidance for places of worship states that singing and chanting activities have been discontinued, and indoor attendance is limited to 25 percent of building capacity or a maximum of 100 attendees in churches to avoid spreading the disease. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, singing at services has proven to be one way to spread a virus.

Local Health Officers are to consider appropriate limitations on both outdoor and indoor attendance capacities. Singing is proven to be a way of spreading the virus. Hence, the State of California no longer allows singing in churches.
