Ashok Keshari walked 1600 km from Mumbai to Varanasi due to the COVID-19 nationwide lockdown, but his family members restricted his entry into the house.

Ashok Keshari walked over 1600 km for almost 14 days to reach Varanasi from Mumbai because of lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Ashok Kesari walked 1600 km home after the place he works at Mumbai shut down due to nationwide lockdown. When he reached his residence in Saptsagar Dawa Mandi, Varanasi, his entry was denied into his own house by his family members fearing that he might have contracted COVID-19. The locality became worried once the news of Ashok's arrival spread and they immediately informed the police authorities of their area.

He was allowed to enter the house after he underwent screening at a government hospital and was found asymptomatic for COVID-19 but would remain quarantined in a room for 14 days as a precaution.

The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation. For reliable advice on COVID-19 including symptoms, prevention and available treatment, please refer to the World Health Organisation or your national healthcare authority.
