India might record 2.87 lakh COVID-19 cases per day by February 2021.

Recent studies suggest that it is possible that India might see a huge spike in COVID-19 infections by early 2021, but it requires further validation.

The preprint of the research papers by Massachusetts Institute of Technology professors Hazhir Rahmandad, John Sterman, and Ph.D. candidate Tse Yang Lim predicted that India has to face the worst scenario if the COVID-19 vaccine is not available to the people before the end of winter 2021. India might have 2.87 lakh positive cases per day in February. They have considered 84 countries data with reliable testing data - spanning 4.75 billion people, and they have developed a dynamic epidemiological model. They further added that rigorous testing and fewer contacts might reduce the risk of potential positive cases.

The research is yet to be evaluated and peer-reviewed as of July 21, 2020, the information is subject to change.

The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation. For reliable advice on COVID-19 including symptoms, prevention and available treatment, please refer to the World Health Organisation or your national healthcare authority.
