Two people have died after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine in Norway.

The cause of death of the two people is yet to be determined by the Norwegian Medicines Agency and the National Institute of Public Health.

On Jan. 5, 2021, the Norwegian Medicines Agency released a statement that the Norwegian Medicines Agency and the National Institute of Public Health received reports of two people who died a few days after they received the vaccination. The coronary vaccine Comirnaty was BioNTech / Pfizer.

Medical director Steinar Madsen said the assessment has to be conducted by the agency with the National Institute of Public Health to investigate the reason for the death. It is to ascertain whether the vaccine was the cause of death or whether it was a coincidence that it happened so soon after the vaccination.

The residents of selected nursing homes have received the coronary vaccine Comirnaty in Norway. The Norwegian Medicines Agency and the National Institute of Public Health are having a follow up on all reports of suspected side effects, including death, to assess the causal link. The agency will take immediate actions on suspicion of unexpected, new, or severe side effects during the monitoring. An autopsy is expected to be completed in the coming days to establish the cause of death. Based on the information available at the time of writing, it is misleading to state that she died after taking the vaccine because that implies she died due to complications resulting from the vaccine.

The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation. For reliable advice on COVID-19 including symptoms, prevention and available treatment, please refer to the World Health Organisation or your national healthcare authority.
