All the Democrats who supported the Medicare for All policy won in the 2020 House of Reps. elections.Swing state refers to any state that could reasonably be won by either the Democratic or Republican presidential candidate by a swing in votes. The Democrats expected a clean sweep this election. The results were mediocre, and some in the party blamed that policies like Medicare for All and other class-based, bread-and-butter policies dragged down the party’s performance this election. But the results undermined the fact that those policies sunk them in.

The 2020 House Race Ratings listed by Cook show that 23 swing seats held by Democratic incumbents were seeking re-election as toss-up or leans Democratic. Among those 23, two incumbents Reps. Matt Cartwright of Pennsylvania and Peter DeFazio of Oregon won the election; both had co-sponsored a bill providing Medicare for All. Every other cosponsor of House Progressive Caucus cochair Pramila Jayapal’s 2019 Medicare for All legislation won reelection this year. The socialist Ryan Knight has tweeted the list of winners.
