Dilip Ghosh had declared that COVID-19 was over and the lockdowns imposed in the state were politically motivated. The state unit of BJP in West Bengal held a rally to protest the killings of its party workers despite restrictions in place due to the pandemic. During the speech, Dilip Ghosh, the BJP state chief, claimed that coronavirus is over and said that the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is intentionally imposing a lockdown so that BJP cannot hold meetings and rallies ahead of elections due next year. He said that BJP would conduct rallies and will not follow the government’s coronavirus guidelines as the virus was no longer a threat to people.
The state had recorded 3,112 positive cases in a single day on September 10, 2020, with 41 deaths, and the case count did not seem even to decrease.
