The United States recorded more than 1 million new COVID-19 cases in one day as the Omicron variant spread rapidly.
The surge in cases comes due to delayed reporting by the local governments and activities and traveling during the New Year's weekend. The grim milestone was set as the cases doubled in a span of one week, and it came from the highly mutated variant. Further, the seven-day rolling average of positive COVID tests has reached 20 percent. However, the infections are not severe, and the death rate has not skyrocketed as scientists believe that the variant causes only mild symptoms.
The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation. For reliable advice on COVID-19, including symptoms, prevention, and available treatment, please refer to the World Health Organization or your national healthcare authority.
