While addressing BJP social media volunteers in Kolkata, Amit Shah explained strategies used to connect with more people via social media platforms.Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated BJP's new app "Modi Para" at Kolkata's Science City auditorium on February 11, 2021. He used BJP's victory in Uttar Pradesh to demonstrate how social media played a key role in winning the elections. He further said that cyber volunteers in Bengal should use Whatsapp or Twitter, or other social media platforms to reach people on all levels in Bengal. He further added that volunteers should divide into four groups like political analysis team, content creators, etc., and aim to reach out to almost two crore people via WhatsApp. The content should be based on three categories: Centre's projects, opposing political violence, and local people's demands. He reiterated that the content should contain little touches of humor, satire, and fear to appeal to voters' emotions. People should be interested in going through such messages. According to the Bharatiya Janata Party's YouTube video, he also said that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would bag 294 seats in upcoming elections.
The New Indian Express reported that there were around 60-lakh-BJP workers and 40,000 WhatsApp groups in West Bengal. It also reported that Shah had instructed BJP's social media workers to send 50 lakh messages per hour before the Bengal Assembly elections.
Legislative Assembly Elections in West Bengal are scheduled to be held in 2021 for 294 seats. BJP, All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), and Communist Party of India (M) are the main parties contesting in this election.
