The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation had published the image of James in the most wanted list. He was convicted for the murder of Martin Luther King Junior.

National Park Service, the United States federal agency published the biography of King Junior which also mentioned that the King was assassinated on 4 April 1968, by James Earl Ray.
