Mangeshkar had said she hopes to see Narendra Modi as the next Prime Minister during an inauguration of a hospital in Pune in Nov. 2013.On Nov. 1, 2013, playback singer Lata Mangeshkar had invited the then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate a new complex at Pune’s Deenath Mangeshkar hospital, where she endorsed his candidature as the next Prime Minister of the country.

While addressing the attendees, Mangeshkar called Modi her ‘brother’ and said that she would love to see him as the PM, The Hindu BusinessLine reported. “All of us want to see him become the Prime Minister. On the auspicious occasion of Diwali, I hope our wishes would come true”, she said.

Following Mangeshkar's endorsement, the Congress party expressed their disappointment over the incident. Party spokesperson Bhakta Charan Das told the reporters in Delhi that "the entire nation feels pain when something like this comes out of Lataji's voice for an insensitive person like Narendra Modi," the Firstpost reported.

BJP swept the 2014 Lok Sabha elections by bagging 282 seats, paving Narendra Modi's way to become the 14th Prime Minister of the country.
