The BBC has termed the Feb 28, Brigade parade ground rally in Kolkata as the "World's largest political gathering."

An old and morphed image is used to claim that the recently held Left-Cong-ISF rally in Kolkata was the world's largest peaceful political gathering.

An old and morphed image is used to claim that the recently held Left-Cong-ISF rally in Kolkata was the world's largest peaceful political gathering. The Left-Congress-ISF alliance had organized their first campaign for the 2021 West Bengal Assembly Elections at Kolkata's famed Brigade Parade Ground on February 28, 2021. Subsequently, several posts on social media claimed that BBC had termed it as the 'World's largest peaceful political gathering,' which is false.

The viral graphics featured an image of the rally with a graphic as ‘BBC News Breaking’ and the headline “Kolkata Brigade 2021: World's Largest Peaceful Political Geathering".

However, we found that the rally event was not covered by the BBC, which has a dedicated page for news related to Kolkata. Further, the viral posts' image is unrelated to the recent rally held on Feb 28; the image is taken from a 2019 rally organized by the Left Front in Kolkata. Moreover, the word in the graphic is misspelled as ‘Geathering’ instead of 'gathering.'

Boolmive has also done a FactCheck on the same claim and reported that they reached out to the BBC who in turn confirmed that the viral graphic was fake. Taking all this evidence into account, we can conclude that the BBC did not cover the February 28 event at the Brigade parade ground and that viral posts quoting the BBC regarding the event are fake.
