Nearly two dozen rockets were fired from a pickup truck inside the Afghan capital. Many buildings and vehicles were damaged. The Iranian embassy said rocket fragments hit its compound. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, according to the SITE Intelligence Group, an online website that tracks jihadi organizations.

The spokesman of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed his condolences to the government and Afghan people, particularly the victim's families.
