Collage of pictures of a boy crying as his parents are being hospitalised due to COVID-19 is a set of old pictures shared to spread misinformation. The posts shared on social media are showing pictures of a crying child and two others showing a woman and a man in hospital beds, claiming that the boy’s parents are infected with the COVID-19.

A reverse image search revealed that all the images from the social media post were lifted from random websites. The original image of the boy crying is a screenshot from a video published on 22 March 2018, with a caption 'Kid cries after flushing toilet'.

According to the NCB news article, the picture of the man in a hospital bed shows Dylan Nelson of Burlington, Wisconsin. Nelson was hospitalized in 2019 for lung damage from vaping.

The Facebook post of Maddie Nelson shows that the woman pictured in the posts is Maddie Nelson of Nephi, Utah. She said that the photo was taken when she was hospitalized while suffering from lung problems after vaping.

Therefore, the viral post does not depict a family and the images were circulated online before the COVID-19 pandemic.

The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation. For reliable advice on COVID-19 including symptoms, prevention and available treatment, please refer to the World Health Organisation or your national healthcare authority.
