Fake COVID-secure marshals are trying to gain entrance into people's homes

People purporting to be COVID-secure marshals and medical professionals have been trying to enter people's homes.

People purporting to be COVID-secure marshals and medical professionals have been trying to enter people's homes. In early September, Bedfordshire police released a statement about and attempted "distraction burglary" involving two men pretending to be "COVID-secure marshals".

The two men told a Bedfordshire resident and that they needed to enter his property to check if he was following social distancing rules. They claimed that they had authority from the police, but when the resident refused to comply, the two men eventually left the scene.

This scam seems to be a newer version of the one that took place over summer. In the summer, people purporting to be healthcare workers would go door-to-door, claiming that they had COVID-19 tests in an attempt to enter properties.

The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation. For reliable advice on COVID-19 including symptoms, prevention and available treatment, please refer to the World Health Organisation or your national healthcare authority.
