A written answer by the Ministry of Home Affairs to an unstarred question by the Lok Sabha MP Nusrat Jahan Ruhi on 17 March 2020 confirms the claim.The answer reveals that there are six detention centres in Assam with a capacity of 3,331 persons which includes centres in Tezpur with 797 capacity, Silchar 479 capacity, Dibrugarh 680 capacity, Jorhat 670 capacity, Kokrajhar 335 capacity and Goalpara 370 capacity. Further, the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kishan Reddy informed that a detention centre at Matia, Goalpara with a capacity of 3,000 is under construction.
