Dr. Seuss Enterprises said they were committed to ceasing six books written by Dr. Seuss from publication over racist and insensitive imagery.
On March 2, 2021, Dr. Seuss Enterprises, the children's entertainment company committed to caretaking Dr. Seuss's legacy, announced six of his books were pulled down from publication. The books are McElligot's Pool, And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, If I Ran the Zoo, On Beyond Zebra, Scrambled Eggs Super, and The Cat's Quizzer. The books were originally published between 1937 and 1976, containing caricatures of Asian and Black people, including stereotypes that have been criticized as racist. A panel of experts, including educators, worked with Dr. Seuss Enterprises to review its catalog. In 2020, it was decided to end the publication and licensing of those six books, noting that the action was their extensive plan and commitment to ensure that all communities and families are represented and supported by the enterprises' catalog.
