While the lockdown has been extended in containment zones, malls and religious places can reopen in a phased manner from 8 June 2020.On May 31, 2020 the National Disaster Management Authority(NDMA) directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to issue an order for extending the lockdown up to 30 June in containment zones and to restart economic activities in areas beyond containment zones in a phased manner.

In phase 1 of Unlock 1, malls, religious places, hotels, restaurants and other hospitality services will be permitted to open from June 8. The Home Ministry said the Health Ministry will issue standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the above activities, in consultation with the Central Ministries and departments concerned and other stakeholders to ensure social distancing and that the spread of COVID-19 is contained. Schools, colleges, coaching institutions, metro rail, cinema halls, gymnasiums, swimming pools, entertainment parks, theatres, bars and auditoriums will remain closed in phase 1.
