Malayalam cine actor Thilakan's leg was to be amputated when he was in the Army.

There is no evidence to prove that Thilakan was in the army initially to corroborate his account of leg amputation further.Actor Binoy Nambala, who co-starred with Thilakan in the film Indian Rupee, wrote on social media, saying that Thilakan was in the army at a young age, and his legs had been damaged due to extreme cold of Kashmir. The doctors in the military ordered him to amputate one of his legs. But, his leg had not been amputated after then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru stepped in and ordered the army against it.

However, according to some of the news articles based on his life, he was never enrolled in the army. Thilakan had started his acting career as a theater artist and had ventured into full-time acting after leaving college in the year 1956 at the age of 21.

There is no evidence to show he was in the army or that his leg had to be amputated.
